ROCKCLIFFE CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

3,2,1 BLAST OFF! Spring Term 2

This half term, prepare yourself for an intergalactic mission as Class Three become space cadets! We’ll be following in the footsteps of Neil Armstrong as we blast off into space to fulfil our mission to the moon. We’ll be learning all about the life of the astronaut and key events of the infamous moon-landing.

In science, we’ll be developing our working scientifically skills through a selection of space themed investigations.

Equally, we be using space as inspiration for our artwork. We’ll be developing our application of pastels by creating 3D planet art. Additionally, we’ll be using paint and marbles to create planets and be developing our evaluation skills in relation to our created artwork.

In Design and Technology, we’ll be developing our knowledge of pop-up cards. We’ll be using these to make space-themed Mother’s Day cards, which will be out of this world!

Our English will be based around, Man on the Moon (a day in the life of Bob), during which we’ll be writing diary entries and an unusual retelling of the story. Year Two pupils will also be developing their use and application of inverted commas in order to help write an alien conversation.

Finally, in our maths we’ll be exploring our friendly alien Zog’s cake shop. We’ll be using this to explore fractions and develop our knowledge of key fractions including halves and quarters. We’ll also be developing our knowledge of 3D shapes and will be using this to build and create rockets.

Keep a watchful eye on our class page for photographs and information about what we’ve been up to as our moon mission progresses!
