Year 4 have been having lots of fun this week. We have been enjoying learning how to play basketball with our coach. We have learned how to dribble and pass to each other during a game. In maths this week, year 4 have been learning all about Roman Numerals. We explored this physically creating our own clocks using Roman numerals and investigating how many different Roman Numerals we can make using certain combinations of digits. In English, We have been writing to persuade. We began our persuasion by creating wild and wonderful inventions which we then had to pitch, Dragons Den style. Safe to say that we would have had investments from all of the dragons. After this, we wrote to Miss Scotson to persuade her that year 4 are most definitely the best class to teach here at Rockcliffe school. For our topic this week, we have been learning what each part of a river is called and what it does.

This week in year 4 we have been very busy! We have become budding young poets beginning the week by learning a poem off by heart. We then used our inference skills to discuss the analogy that the poet used. We then used this to start to create our own 'excuse poems'. We had lots of naughty pets to write about. We published these on National Poetry day on Thursday, where the theme was choices. Our pets had to choose weather to tell the truth about the cheeky things they had done, or to lie to try and get away with their crime. In maths this week, we have been recapping addition- The children have all remembered this very well and have even been adding together some 4-digit numbers. In D and T, we have sequenced together our greenhouse plan and are all ready to go with the build in the coming weeks.

Year 4 have had a jam packed week of learning this week. For our maths we have been learning how to add and subtract 4 digit numbers with some tricky exchanges. In English, we have been continuing witho our poetry and writing another poem, this time in the style of one we have read. Instead of rhyming, we have been writing poems in free verse. Year 4 have been practicing their dribbling and passing skills in hockey. We can't wait to start applying this to games in the week ahead. After learning all about plants this half term, we have conducted a science experiment this week looking at the conditions plants need to survive and grow. We will share our findings next week when we write our experiment up.

Year 4 have been getting stuck into lots of different activities this week. We have been learning how to subtract efficiently in maths. In English, we have been exploring different types of poems, continuing to write poems in lots of different styles. At the end of this week year 4 implemented all of their D and T skills they've learned this haf term and made their own greenhouses. They showed an amazing level of responsibility when using hot glue guns to put their green houses together.

Year 4 have come back full of energy and ready to learn this week. We have launched our new writing unit, looking at all things Mythological. The children learned an example of a myth and performed this to the rest of the class. We have been expanding our vocabulary, sharing and using lots of exciting adjectives to describe settings. This half term year 4 are starting their topic on Ancient Egypt. This week, they have been able to locate Egypt on the map and identify the key landmarks linked to ancient Egypt. In D and T we will be designing and making stockings, just in time for the big guy himself (Santa) to come. Miss Scotson is very excited as we started studying dance this week as part of our PE lessons. Year 4 can't wait to make some funky moves.

We have been continuing with our Myth writing this week and have been creating weird and wonderful mythical creatures. These beasts are so fantastically crazy that I must make sure I read about them during the daytime or else I may be a little bit frightened. In maths we have been multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. Safe to say that this was a breeze to year 4 and were looking for new ways to challenge their maths skills. Continuing with our Egyptian topic, we have become Egyptologists this week and have been looking back through the key events of Egyptian history. In RE, the children ahve been learning all about the story of Noah.

This week in year 4 we have been getting ready to re-write a version of a myth we already know. We began the week with making story roads for these to plan out our writing. Sticking with our Egypt topic, year 4 have learned all about some of Egypt's most famous Pharaohs. Ask them who their favourite is! In music this week Year 4 have been learning about STAFF notation and the values of each note they see written. They have all done incredibly well with this and used their mathematical knowledge to work out how many beats could be in a bar of music. In science, we have been learning about our digestive systems. We made our own model of the human body and drew on the parts that we have learned about and can now explain what each part does to help us digest food.

This week in year 4 we have been writing our own myths. We played a fun game to create our mythical creatures and used drama as a table to plan out each stage of our myth. There have been some very scary creatures with some crazy events for our heroes to overcome! We continued with our dancing in PE and learned a dance to fit in with our Egyptian topic. There have been some funky Egyptian moves! In maths we have been multiplication mad, applying the facts we know about our 9 times tables to problems.

Year 4 have been super busy this week. In our Egyptian topic we have been learning all about the Egyptian Pharos and their pyramids. We have looked at all of the different types of pyramids and what they were used for. The children found out all of the ways they could stop a tomb raider, maybe if you ask them nicely they can install some new home security! We have been moving along with our D and T project learning how to sew before we get down to sewing our stockings next week. In our writing we have been looking at the different features of a playscript and becoming budding young actors and actresses.

Wow! What a final week we have had in year 4. We have been writing our own play scripts inspired by the movie Elf. The children put all of their learning into practice when they made their own Christmas stockings and demonstrated some wonderful sewing skills in addition to showing lots of resilience. We have all worked so hard this half term so on the final day of term we had a little party! Safe to say, they all enjoyed throwing snowballs at Miss Scotson's head.
