British Values
As a school, we continue to promote the “British Values” of Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty and Tolerance. These values are highlighted in our new hall displays which have been created by each class.
How does RE contribute to pupils’ capacity to explore of British Values?
We enable pupils to learn to think for themselves about British values. We offer opportunities to build an accurate knowledge base about religious and human values, as well as hone interpersonal skills in classroom discussions.

Class 5- Mutual Tolerance We do not accept intolerant attitudes to members of the community. A baseline for a fair community is that each person’s right to ‘be themselves’ is accepted by all. RE can challenge children and young people to be increasingly respectful and to celebrate diversity.

Class 6- Individual Liberty In RE, pupils consider questions about identity and belonging.. Pupils could begin to understand themselves as situated in a particular cultural context by considering the cultural norms, rules, desires and pressures which restrain them, but also the ways they are free. Religion is a good case study of the balance between freedom and restraint. |
