Earth-shattering Earthquakes!

As part of our Geography unit on Natural Disasters we have been exploring the causes and effects of earthquakes. We were able to apply our learning from volcanoes to discover just how and why earthquakes are formed.

We then explored how scientists monitor and record earthquakes using seismographs and the benefits of doing this. Next, we made our very own seismographs. We were able to use these to explore how to read seismograms explaining the differences between the larger and smaller waves.
