ROCKCLIFFE CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Meerkat Madness!

This autumn term, meerkat madness will be sweeping through class three with pupils learning all about meerkats, with the help of Sunny and his friends.

Our English work will centralise around the quality text Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett during which pupils will focus on developing their basic skills. We’ll be focusing on structuring sentences correctly as we produce a range of writing from postcards to stories.

In geography, we’ll be exploring just where exactly meerkats come from. We’ll also be looking at different weather patterns around the world in order to answer the question, ‘could meerkats live in a place like this?’

In our art sessions, they’ll be colour chaos! We will be exploring paint and how to produce painted artworks with increased accuracy. We’ll be developing our mixing skills to help us to create secondary colours, shades and tones. During this, we’ll be exploring the works of famous artists from Mondrian to Pollock. At the end of our unit, pupils will be able to apply their learning in order to create a painted meerkat masterpiece.

In computing, we will be developing our knowledge of laptops and improving our basic skills. We’ll be using search engines to find information on meerkats before transferring this into a word document. We’ll be learning to open and save documents in Microsoft Word  as well as copying and pasting images (of yes you guessed it meerkats) into our documents.

Keep a watchful eye on our class page on the school website in order to see all the meerkat mischief as it unfolds.
