On our transition day, we had lots of fun exploring the book Scaredy Squirrel by Melanie Watt.
We shared the story, even acting out parts, and discovered the Scaredy Squirrel was in fact the most terrified little squirrel that we had ever met!
We looked at the things that frightened Scaredy Squirrel the most before exploring his emergency kit to uncover the items that he had to protect him. We worked together in small teams in order to match Scaredy’s emergency items to his phobias.
Once we had successfully completed this task, we thought about what things we were scared of and what items we might put in our emergency kit to protect us. There was a whole variety of items from bee costumes to help disguise us from killer bees to rubber gloves to help to keep our hands clean and free from dirt. We then created our very own emergency kits using our neatest handwriting and colouring.
Currently, some of these are being showcased on our reading corner display and our work to be proud of board. Why don’t you come along and take a look?
