Summer 2022
Summer Term 1 2022
Welcome back Early Years!
We hope you have had a super Easter break and are ready for a fun-filled Summer Term. Miss Tinkler is super excited to get to know you all and to be your new teacher. This half term our topic is 'Dinosaurs Beware!', we have lots of fantastic things planned for our new topic and we can't wait to get started.
Our Christian Value for the Summer Term is 'Courage'. Courage can be shown in a variety of ways, it is all about being brave and making the right choices. Can you think of how you could show courage?
Week 1
We have had a lovely first week back at school and a super start to our new topic. The children explored dinosaur fossils and even had a go at making their own. The children learned how fossils are created and have been using their excellent observation skills to look at the details in a variety of fossils using magnifying glasses. The children learned a new dinosaur rhyme and then we created a fabulous display for the school hall.
Week 2
In week 2 we have continued our Dinosaurs Beware topic and have been looking at dinosaur eggs! The children have been comparing dinosaur eggs and chicken eggs, making paper mache dinosaur eggs and even saving dinosaurs from frozen eggs in the water tray. We have also been looking after our chick eggs this week, we carefully got them out of their incubator for some candling. We looked very closely to see if our chicks were growing inside the eggs.
Week 3
This week in Early Years have been learning about where different dinosaurs lived, they have been very busy creating their own Jurassic Jungle. The children went on a hunt around our outdoor areas to find resources to use.
In maths this week EYFS have been learning about 2D shapes and how we can manipulate these shapes to create Tangrams. The children did a fabulous job rotating, flipping and positioning the shapes to create a tangram resembling a dinosaur.
Week 4
We have had a very exciting week in Early Years. We came into school on Tuesday morning to find two perfect little chicks chirping away in the incubator. The children have been learning how to care for our chicks and how we can keep them healthy and safe while they live in our classroom. It is safe to say we have had some very excited children.
Week 5
We have had a very creative (and messy) week in EYFS. The children have been hard at work creating their dinosaur junk models created from entirely recycled materials. Look how fabulous they turned out!
We also had our own little science experiment to show what a volcanic eruption would look like. We added bicarbonate of soda to vinegar to create a chemical reaction.
Summer Term Two.
Week One
Welcome back to Summer Term Two. What a fantastic start to Summer Two, I am very happy to be back in class seeing all the children and getting to know them, everyone has been so welcoming and I can not wait to continue and be part their learning journey over the next 6 weeks.
This half term our theme is based around 'The Zoo' this will encompass many different wild animals!! So get ready to ask crocodiles questions, eat pancakes with rhinos, and talk to orange pandas!
This week we have been enjoying the story 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea'. During the week we have been learning Tiger facts, drawing some detailed Tiger drawings and using our phonics knowledge to make shopping lists for Sophie and her Mummy.
In Maths we have been revisiting subitising and have focused on using objects, dice, dominos and tens frames. The children really impressed the staff with their sound knowledge of numbers to 10 and their recognition in a vareity of diffferent representations.
Week Two
What an amazing week we have had. We have been so busy in EYFS with Literature week.
We started the week dressed as superheroes and had a wonderful session run by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet, the children enjoyed listening to the stories, joining in with games and even learnt how to draw their very own Supertato characters. We tried different types of vegetables - peppers were a huge sucess! And even made our very own Supertatos too.
Following on from this we enjoyed joining in watching the full school theatre show of 'The Three B's and the Big G'. Our class really impressed us with their attention and recall. We even had some of our very own mini actors up on stage!! We continued the week with two other workshops with Authors Kirsty Cartiledge who read us her book and played some drama games teaching us all about being fair.
In class we have been reading the story ' Rhinos Don't Eat Pancakes'. The children have been working hard on their writing and have prodcued some excellent attempts at longer pieces. We are very proud.
During maths this week we have been looking at doubling, children have been using resources to help them work out double quantities, some even had a go at recording their answers which was fantastic.
Week Three
This week we have been looking at the story 'Marmalade the Orange Panda' by David Walliams.
Children enjoyed writing about Marmalade and produced some outstanding pieces of work.
We continued the marmalade theme and looked at how we can squash and squeeze fresh orange juice.
Use oranges for printing.
How oranges feel, taste and smell.
As well as making our own marmalade tarts- they were yummy!!!
In Maths this week we have been looking at how we can share objects equally into two and three groups.
