Autumn 2024
Welcome back to school and the Autumn term!
The children have settled so well into Year 1 and 2. Their behaviour and attitudes have blown us away!
In the first few days settling into life back at school, we created a class charter - listing the kinds of behaviour and attitudes the children would like each other to display.
They wrote about their perfect school and then worked as teams to build them. I wonder if we might see swimming pools in schools of the future?! 🤔
We had our first PE sessions this week. In our Wednesday session with sports coach, Nick, we played skills games relating to Football. The children learned how to listen carefully to instructions and navigate space and each other in a game scenario.
'Where am I?' is our Geography topic this half term where we will discover more about where we live. This week we explored the United Kingdom and its countries and were able to identify and name them on a map.
We started our first text based writing unit in English this week entitled 'What feelings Do When No One Is Looking.' We began by exploring the meaning of the different emotion words before creating word cards listing synonyms for each emotion.
As part of our science unit on 'Living things and their habitats', Year 1 and 2 investigated different animals and sorted them into pets and wild animals. They discussed which animals were familiar to them and were able to reason about whether certain animals would make good pets or not. Some of the children went on to sorting the animals into a simple Venn diagram.
