What a week we have had. The children have come back with a bang. We have been continuing learning about decimals in maths and the children have done so well with this. We launched our topic on the Anglo Saxons, looking at where the invaders came from and the different tribes within the Anglo Saxons. The year 4s got stuck into writing limericks too. They wrote some brilliant examples which are on display in the school hall.
There once was a class of year four,
Whose limericks made people roar.
Their pencils steamed,
And their writing gleamed.
I hope one day they'll write more!

This week we have had lots of fun learning all about biographies. We have learned that a biography tells you all about a person's life and we have been writing one about our friends in class. We wrote out a time line of their life and it was so much fun getting to know about their early childhood. We have been money mad in maths learning what the different coins represent and how we can add and subtract the different values of money. In RE we have been learning about the Bhuddist faith. We looked at the Bhuddist ideas around afterlife and karma and created a board game based on this.

We have continued our work with Anglo Saxons, learning all about why the Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain in the first place. We were learning avout push and pull factors, which lead to the children writing a letter from the king to ask for European help against the Scots. We wrapped up our money unit this week with a series of tricky money challenges. This really made us think hard and work together as part of a team.

We have continued work on our Anglo-Saxon topic by learning all about the villages they settled in. There were some very good ideas behind why they had their villages set up in such a way and the children enjoyed designing their own Anglo-Saxon village. In French this half term we have been learning about the supermarket. We can name a range of essentials that people buy and we have been using French/ English dictionaries to help us translate.

This week in our maths lessons we have been looking at time. We have stretched our learning and have been converting between 12 and 24 hour times with ease. We applied this knowledge to some very tricky 2022 challenges. In PE we have been working on our ball skills as we have been playing the game rounders. Rounders has been a firm favourite with year 4.
Hope you all have a restful half term!
