Summer 2022

Welcome back and here is to hoping that the beautiful weather is here to stay with us! This half term we are back and exploring Cold Climates in our Topic work. Take a look at the overview below to see what else we are studying this half term. 

This week we have kickstarted our English work looking at how to describe the penguin in Oliver Jeffers 'Lost and Found'. We have generated adjectives to describe and then created our own lost posters to find the missing penguin. Take a look at our fantastic posters, Year 1 tried really hard with their drawings and descriptions. 

This week we have started our Art topic - Frottage, taking rubbings from the environment. We got outside and made use of the lovely weather and natural environment. 

We have also been looking at creating shapes and balances within Gymnastics in our PE sessions. Take a look at some of our fantastic partner balances. 

This week in Maths we have been recapping our Place Value to ensure we are secure of what number is worth as a value. We have been matching and creating using Base ten. 

This week we have been busy making some of our own creations in Design Technology. Link to our Topic of Cold Cilmates we have been taste testing, designing and makign our own ice lollies in a series of different flavours. They were so good Year one didn't even want to share! 

Welcome back to Summer Term 2! This half terms learning is detailed below: 

Welcome back, this week Year one have hit the ground running and have been working incredibly hard! This week we been working hard on dividing/ sharing. We have used a range of resources to practice our sharing/ dividing skills. I've been very impressed with Year 1's persistence. 

This week we have made a super start! Key Stage 1 have used their superpowers to kick those Monday blues away and make a brilliant start with our Literacy Festival! We had a fantastic Zoom session with the Authors of Supertato whilst dressed as Superheroes! I know which of these impressive bunch I would like to help save the day! 

This week we have had a fantastic visit from Helen Teasdale who came to see us from Stagecoach. The children leaned some actions and words for the delightful song 'A spoonful of sugar'. Year 1 and 2 did a fantastic job of learning the words, actions and adding a smile to everyones faces in school. We would love to see Helen again, a big thank you from Year 1 and 2!

As part of our Literacy Festival we have also had a visit from Booster Cushion Theatre retelling a version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children were enthralled and loved every minute of this traditional tale with a spin!

We were also lucky enough to have a visit from the lovely author Rebecca Tyson, who came to share her book 'Flamingo Flockdown'. The children loved looking at the flamingos and recalling things they did themselves/ with their families during lockdown.
